Traffic is the most important factor in whether your website is going to be successful. It doesn't matter if you have the prettiest site or the most up to date technology wise, if you don't have any traffic it is not going to succeed.
Not all traffic is equal; what I mean by that is, you can have hundreds of visitors to your site a day, but if they are not doing what you want them to then they are useless. So to counter this you want to get targeted traffic that has an interest in what your website is about. This targeted traffic is far more likely to do the things that make you money, i.e. buy your product or click on an ad.
Getting targeted traffic doesn't have to be hard if you have a clear plan on how you are going to attract them. You need to know where they hang out and ways in which you can drive them to your site.
One way to do this is article marketing. Write good articles with a strong keyword rich body and title. Your title should also be interesting so that visitors will click on it and read your article. Having a link in the body of the article and/or in your resource box and a call to action will see more traffic coming your way.
Going to forums that are relevant to your niche will also bring in lots of visitors. Being an active member leaving lots of comments and answering any questions will help build your profile to other members, which in turn will drive traffic to your site. Leave informative answers and help as many people as you can on the forum. Treat every member as a potential customer to your website this will ensure that you come across as a very helpful person with lots to offer members.
Social media is also a great place to find like-minded individuals who in turn can visit your site. Places like Twitter and Facebook have millions of members that could be interested in your site. Do a search of your niche keywords and follow some of the people that come up. Eventually some of these people will follow you back and this is when you can start to advertise your site. Also give them some free stuff, maybe part of your latest post on your website with a click here to read on link back to your site. Be very active on these sites and answer any questions they might have, give informative posts and free stuff and people will start to visit your site.
Having a varied traffic generation system will help to gain traffic like you have never had before. Remembering to do parts of your system everyday will insure that traffic comes day in day out. And once you are at a comfortable level financially you can then think about outsourcing every part of your traffic generation system.
