How Online Video Boosts Brand Recall

One of the most amazing findings recently has been the enormous impact of online video in improving brand recall for the people who use it as a promotional tool. Now, as to why it beats traditional television ads is anybody's guess. You can speak to five different marketing experts and may very well get five different answers.

However, there is one theory that most in the know generally agree on. When a person is watching television they are usually in entertainment mode. In other words, they are looking at it for purposes of enjoying a movie, sporting event, drama series, sitcom, whatever. They are not on the tube with the intent of being informed (news being the exception) but rather to be entertained.

Not only that, the companies advertising during the commercial breaks are competing with everybody else doing the same thing. So there is a decent chance their message will get lost in the mix or not even noticed at all.

However, when we talk about the internet, we are describing an entirely different animal. It boils down to this; most people go online to find information, whether it is free or something they may have to pay for. They are usually there to be enlightened, informed and educated. It has been that way for some time, and will probably be for the foreseeable future.

Therefore they are much more likely to be receptive to, and recall a brand name or product they come across during their browsing. And, here's the neat thing about it. They do not necessarily have to be on a video sharing site to come across the video. Why is that you ask? Because many sites have videos embedded in them, have links leading to them, or often allow businesses for a fee to post videos on their sites or blogs.

This is an extremely powerful way for businesses to build brand recall. Most of the time it is free, especially if you are using video sharing sites. However, even if you go the paid route, it will no doubt be extremely affordable in comparison with television advertising.

And, whatever method you employ, do not overlook the power of social media. A link to your video via Twitter, a link on Facebook, or maybe even a page devoted to your brand with the video embedded in it. These two, along with LinkedIn for the most part represent the Big Three of social media. But, do not forget the lesser known sites also. Just like when they say, all money is good money, well, all advertising (well-developed) is good advertising.

So there you have it, some useful tips on how online video boosts brand recall. Now, get out there and start posting and building up your brand.
